Parking area fills up on weekends. Go early

Clean, well marked, varied terrain trail with lots of smaller unmarked trails connecting. Be careful not to get lost if you go off marked trail!

Best climbing you can find near Ashville area. All bouldering. Stick to Westside boulders, Eastside got burnt badly so the landings at most climbs ilare pretty rough.

Rumbling Bald is beautiful. This south-facing gneiss boulder field has an abundance of tall, classic problems with bad feet. Best in the winter.

Great place for boulder and rock climbing. Parking lot can fill up quick but shuttles are sometimes available from downtown Lake Lure. There's a 1.5 mile loop trail that goes along the base of the cliffs and through the boulder fields with a few steep, rocky sections.

The trails at Rumbling Bald are reasonably moderate and offer a unique experience through beautiful forests and boulder fields. Do you enjoy bouldering or rock climbing? Rumbling Bald is a premier winter climbing destination due to its south-facing cliff faces. In the fall, winter, and spring, the parking lot gets full quickly, so arrive early in the day. Summertime traffic eases a little because the mountain becomes less attractive to climbers due to the excessive heat. Parking along Boys Camp Road is prohibited and you will get a ticket if you park anywhere other than designated parking areas.
